I was first introduced to speciality coffee when I started a part time job whilst studying at university. The business I worked for was supplied by Union Roasted where I received my introductory barista training and started to discover the exciting world of coffee and totally fell down the rabbit hole. After several years of working as a barista and barista trainer I took some time away to travel to Brazil and Colombia and visit coffee farms. After returning from my travels I worked in a small roastery in London before making the move to Margate where, together with my partner Jon, we set up Curve in the summer of 2016.
We focus on carefully sourcing exciting coffees from small producers and roasting them to bring out the most of their intrinsic flavour potential. And we do the best we can to do this in the most sustainable way possible from our green coffee buying and long term relationships with our suppliers, optimizing roasting operations and finding the best packaging and waste management solutions.
Though my self given job title is "green buyer", we're a very small team at Curve which means that I have to wear multiple different hats on most days and be flexible in the jobs I need to fulfill. These range from day to day operations like packing coffee and fulfilling orders, to looking after our wholesale customers and managing their needs from equipment to training and running our website and social media.
