Head Judge of the FNC's Land of Diversity Quality competition for the last 5 years - the competition was created to recognise those farmers in Colombia who produce the highest quality coffee and provide a route into the direct trade market for them. The competition last year generated the highest recorded prices ever paid for Colombian coffee.
MOTIVATION or INTEREST THAT GOT YOU INTO COFFEE: Not having been a coffee fan having only experienced the quality of coffee delivered to the high street, I was lucky enough to taste a cup of specialty coffee grown by Carmen Silva on Finca La Fany in El Salvador, my goal became to share this experience with as many people as possible whilst making that quality the norm within the UK and the price that needs to be paid to farmers to grow it standard procedure for the market. There is still a long way to go but that is still my mission.
FAVOURITE CUP: I don't have a favourite farm or profile, I believe that the beauty of coffee is as an expression of the people and place which create it - I also believe sharing this understanding is the way to develop the real value in coffee for farmers.
