Andrea Otte was raised on a steady diet of drip coffee and bad croissants in Chicago, where she worked in turns as a barista, trainer, café manager, and production assistant before becoming Director of Coffee at Halfwit Coffee Roasters in 2013. After a number of years as a green coffee buyer, unanswered questions about the ethics of the industry drove her to pursue a Masters degree in Development and International Business, which she obtained from Queen Mary, University of London in 2018.
Her biggest influences in coffee have come from the kindness of its people and its embrace of the unfamiliar, without which her interest (and her heart) would have dried up long ago. Her favourite cup this season is a Chemex of a natural processed DR Congo from the Muungano cooperative.
